Paint.NET Blending - By Etain
I couldn't believe what I saw in Paint.net. The way everything was organized was so neat and tidy and everything was in one window, unlike in GIMP. But there were several things that really aggravated me. One thing, it took me a while to find a way to get images to blend and finding a way to change one layer's opacity. But after a while playing around in it, Paint.NET wasn't so bad.

Now, onto the tutorial! BTW, you need at least some knowledge of the tools and the modes.

1. Open up the image you want to use. I used a screenshop from the Kingdom Hearts 2 opening. xD Since my original imaged was fuzzy and grainy looking, I fixed it up. You can do this step as well or you can just skip this and go to the dotted line.

1a. Using the duplicated button (or press CTRL+SHIFT+D) Now, while you are on the duplicated layer, go to Effects/Blurs/Gaussian Blur.

1b. Now, you can set the gaussian blur to whatever you want. I set mine to 4. Tada! Now your picture is all blurry, but don't worry. ;3

1c. Double click on the layer with the gaussian blur. A layer box should come up. Change your settings to mine.

1d. When that is done, duplicate the layer that you jst sset to multiply. And finally, double click that new duplicated layer to change the layer properties to screen.

[b]1e. This step is totally optional. I didn't want my picture to be too blurry, so I sharpened it. You can do this by going to Effects/Photo/Sharpen. Sharpen to whatever you want. But first, flatten the image by going to Image/Flatten or CTRL+SHIFT+F.

Now, here we go to the blending! :D

2. I will be using these images to make my blend. Since my image with Roxas was smaller than the image that I started with, I had to scale that. I suggest that you use a image bigger or the same size. Anyway, paste the second image onto the first, like I did here.

3. To apply the gradient for the blending, you MUST have these specifications: Linear gradient, Transparency Mode, and Normal Blending. Like so:

4. One of the downsides in Paint.NET is that you can't really see the gradient you're making. So just play around with the gradient until you find a blend that you like. :D

Hooray! Now you've got your nice little blend!

I hope this tutorial helped you. :D This tutorial was made by ETAIN.
